Halton Support Services (HSS) - Family Support Group
HSS is organizing a support group for families and caregivers. This group will feature discussions on a variety of topics and will sometimes include presentations from other professionals. The first meeting will take place on Monday October 4, 2010 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. There is no fee for this group and registration is required. Special Services at Home (SSAH) – It’s Renewal Time Again!
If you currently receive Special Services at Home (SSAH), you would have received a renewal package for the upcoming fiscal year (April 1, 2011 – March 31, 2012). If you would like assistance completing your renewal application, clinics are being arranged by Halton Support Services. See below for dates and times. Registration is required.

Service Coordinators, Special Agreement Officers (SAO) from the SSAH program and Respite Coordinators will be on hand to assist families with any questions and/or concerns.

Reminder: deadline for the submission of SSAH renewal applications is November 30, 2010. This is a strict deadline. The Ministry has indicated there will be no reminder letters or phone calls.
Respite Program Notice
Just a reminder for families receiving respite funds through Halton Support Services, we are now in the second 6 month allotment for respite dollars. Hours claimed between October 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011 will be taken from your second 6 month allotment. Invoices for claims from your respite allotment from April 1, 2010 – September 30, 2010 must be received in our office by October 12, 2010. Respite Training
The Central West Region Autism Respite Training Initiative Committee is pleased to offer free training workshops designed specifically for parents, families, respite workers, agency staff and friends. The training sessions are as follows: Understanding the Social World Tuesday October 19, 2010 and Planning for Successful Daily Transitions Friday November 19, 2010. Revised Connections Booklet Available – A Guide to Transition Planning for Parents of Children with Developmental Disabilities
is a self-help manual on transition planning written for parents. The information in the Connections Guide can assist parents in making decisions for the future that are right for their child and their family. Revised copies of this guide are available at Halton Support Services.

Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities
The Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD) program provides help to families to assist with extraordinary costs related to caring for a child with a developmental disability. The child must be 17 years of age or younger and the income of a family will be evaluated to determine qualification. Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)

Autism Ontario – Halton Chapter
All members of Autism Ontario – Halton Chapter are eligible for rebates for specific programs offered by the chapter. All persons with a diagnosis of ASD, or a disorder that falls under the Autism Spectrum umbrella, regardless of age, are eligible to apply for participation in the Chapter’s subsidy program. The subsidy is not available for one on one therapy. Subsidies can be put towards the cost of programs operated by the Chapter, or camps and group programs operated by other organizations. Halton Region - Child Care Subsidy
Child care subsidy or financial assistance with the cost of child care is available to families who are working, attending school or looking for work. Eligibility for financial assistance is based on your family’s income, other eligibility criteria may apply. YMCA Fee Subsidy
The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign ensures that those with financial limitations can access the YMCA for an individual membership or a family membership in the YMCA Facility.
