It's that time of year again. TAX TIME!

• Revenue Canada has a Community Volunteer Income Tax Program designed for individuals who are unable to complete their taxes on their own and who are unable to pay for assistance. Volunteers are not tax experts and cannot be expected to be knowledgeable on all areas of the tax return. They are trained to assist in simple straight forward tax returns. For more information visit
www.cra-arc.gc.ca/volunteer/ or call 1-800-959-8281.
• Please be aware that families who have a child with a developmental disability can claim the Disability Tax Credit on their income tax. The Disability Tax Credit (form T2201) can be ordered by calling 1-800-959-2221 and is available online at www.cra-arc.gc.ca.


Children’s Fitness Tax Credit Parent Information

This is a Federal government tax credit to help parents get their children active. You may claim up to $500 for children under the age of 16, or if eligible for the disability tax credit, under the age of 18. The program/activity must occur once a week for 8 weeks or for 5 days in a row (day camp), is supervised, suitable for children and it must be a program where children are active most of the time. Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)

The Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) is a long-term savings vehicle to help you, your child, your family and others save for the long-term financial security of an individual with a severe disability. For more information please visit www.hrsdc.gc.ca/disability/ and click on the link that says Registered Disability Savings Plan (on the right hand side). Reach for the Rainbow

Reach for the Rainbow (RFTR) is a registered charity serving children and young adults with developmental and physical disabilities from across Ontario. RFTR works in partnership with organized children’s camps and recreational programs from across Ontario to provide integrated opportunities for children and youth with disabilities. Each participant attends with a 1:1 support counsellor. Participants are included in program activities while 1:1 support staff responds to any requirements associated with the disability. Partner camps hire and supervise support counsellors, fostering integration, safety, fun and friendship. For more information please visit www.reachfortherainbow.ca or call 416-503-0088.


Videoconferencing at Central West Specialized Developmental Services (CWSDS)

CWSDS is a host site for videoconferences that are open to families. The information is presented by professionals and clinicians and includes information that can be valuable to families. Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities

The Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD) program provides help to families to assist with extraordinary costs related to caring for a child with a developmental disability. The child must be 17 years of age or younger and the income of a family will be evaluated to determine qualification. Bob Rumball Associations for the Deaf
Learn to Communicate in Sign Language with Deaf or Hard of Hearing Individuals in Your Community
The Bob Rumball Association for the Deaf in Milton will be offering a non-accredited beginner course in American Sign Language in May. The course is offered one night a week and/or Saturday’s. The classes run for 3 hours per session and 10 sessions are required to complete the course.
