Activities for the Holidays!

Holiday Skating in Acton and Georgetown

There will be free skate times available in Acton and Georgetown during the holidays. For more information on dates and times please call the Acton Arena at 519-853-0020, Georgetown Memorial Arena at

Tim Horton's Free Holiday Skate

Tim Horton's is offering free skating at 7 Burlington community arenas, 5 Oakville arenas and 3 Milton arenas. For skating information during the holiday season please refer to your local Parks and Recreation Guide or call:

Festival of Lights

Enjoy a wonderful display of holiday lights while walking along the lakeside promenade at Spencer Smith Park. The festival started on December 7, 2008 and will end on January 8, 2009. Bronte Creek
New Years Eve Family Skate

Outdoor rink will be open December 31, 2008 at 9:30 am until 12:30 am January 1, 2009 so you can bring in the New Year. Skate to music and enjoy a bonfire. Skate rentals are available. For more information please visit www.brontecreek.org.


Lowville Winter Games

Respite Updates and Opportunities

Halton Support Services - Respite Program

• Halton Support Services Respite Program will be mailing out applications for respite funds for the 2009/2010 fiscal year to families currently supported within the program. Please watch for these forms in your mail in January 2009.

For those families who are on the waiting list for respite funding, please contact the respite program if your circumstances have changed since your initial application.

• The Respite Program also has out of home respite providers in Halton Region. If you would like more information please contact Halton Support Services Respite Program

• It's time to start thinking about registration for March Break and Summer Camps. For more information on registration dates please contact your local Parks and Recreation Department.

• If you would like assistance in planning for your respite needs, please contact 905-849-8000 and ask for Janice Rotsma (ext. 333) or Cyndy Ryckman (ext. 433).

• For assistance in locating potential workers, visit www.respiteservices.com.

There are training opportunities available for support workers in Halton Region. There are two training sessions coming up in the New Year. The first is called "Visuals Make It and Take It"on February 3, 2009 and the second is called "Asperger Syndrome and Social Skills" on March 3, 2009.

After School Programs

Community Living Burlington (CLB), Community Living North Halton (CLNH) and Community Living Oakville (CLO) all offer after school respite programs. They are open to individuals who are between the ages of 7 and 21 who have a developmental disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). They operate Monday to Friday from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. There is a fee associated with these programs.

Time to Start Planning for Residential Camps!
Ontario Camping Association (OCA) – 2009 Camp Fair

Camps who are members of the OCA help families in selecting the right camp to meet their child’s needs. Representatives from some of these camps will be coming to Tecumseh Public School, 1480 Chriseden Drive, Mississauga on Tuesday February 3, 2009 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
